FINANCE MINISTER HOLDS TALKS WITH POLISH COUNTERPART

Finance Minister Mihály Varga held talks with Andrzej Domanski, his Polish counterpart, in Luxembourg on Friday which focused on Hungary’s upcoming EU presidency, the finance ministry said. The EU presidency will pay increased attention to challenges the EU faces in competitiveness and demographic trends, to a transition to green economy, a farmer-friendly agriculture policy and the bloc’s further enlargement, the ministry said in a statement. „Under the Hungarian presidency, we must find answers to [the problem] of restoring the European Union’s competitiveness,” the ministry quoted Varga as saying. The finance ministry’s experts are ready to prepare the EU’s draft budget for 2025, the minister said, adding that the Hungarian presidency’s priorities would include strengthening the common defence and cohesion policy. Poland will take over the EU presidency from Hungary in January 2025.
