„Rather than sending weapons and fantasising about a nuclear war we now need real peace talks,” the foreign minister said on Facebook on Friday. Marking the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe, Péter Szijjártó said the occasion could have served as „a platform for making peace” but added that „with Russia’s exclusion that opportunity was lost”. „Real peace talks are not possible unless all belligerents are at the table,” he added. According to Szijjártó, the CoE had been about to adopt a resolution on Friday „which would have recognised Ukrainian President Zelensky’s peace plan as the only formula to consider and support”. „This is unacceptable; others have also prepared peace plans that are no inferior to the Ukrainian president’s,” he said, adding that he had requested the other plans to be included, but the majority rejected the proposal. „Therefore I vetoed and no resolution was passed,” Szijjártó added.
