Mayor of Katowice Marcin Krupa has been decorated with the Hungarian Order of Merit, Knight’s cross in recognition of nurturing Polish-Hungarian friendship, the local mayor’s office said on Friday. The award granted by President Katalin Novák was handed over by Krakow Consul-General Tibor Gerencsér.
Katowice has been cooperating for years with its Hungarian sister city Miskolc and has been regularly hosting a Hungarian Festival since 2010. A memorial paying tribute to Poles aiding the 1956 Hungarian revolution was inaugurated in Katowice in 2017.
