BUDAPEST BIDDING TO HOST 2026 TRACK AND FIELD EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Budapest is bidding to host the 2026 track and field European championships, in competition with Birmingham, the European Athletics Association (EAA) said on Monday. “We have two excellent candidates for the 2026 European Athletics Championships, with both potential Local Organising Committees having great experience staging major outdoor athletics events. They also have excellent stadia and either one of them would make an excellent host,” European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov said, according to the EAA’s website. Hungary will host the track and field world championships in a new arena in Budapest in 2023, and Birmingham will be home to the Commonwealth Games this year, the statement said. The EAA will decide on the venue of the 2026 championships in November this year.
