SZIJJÁRTÓ: 'STRONG MEMBER STATES CAN MAKE EU WINNER IN NEW WORLD ORDER'

It needs strong member states to ensure for the European Union to emerge as a winner in a new era in global politics and world economy, Hungary’s foreign minister said at a panel discussion held on the sidelines of an international security policy conference in Bratislava on Wednesday. Péter Szijjártó addressed the forum of foreign ministers representing the Visegrad Group (V4) Hungary forms with the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia at Globsec. “International power relations have changed significantly in recent times, and we are witnessing the emergence of a new world order which begins with fierce competition and it will determine the future,” Szijjártó said.
The foreign minister highlighted the importance of further strengthening member states in order for the EU to strengthen itself as a community and emerge among the winners in world politics and world economy.
“We have never subscribed to the concept of a European United States; we have instead always supported a strong European Union formed by strong member states,” said Szijjártó.
