CHRISTDEMS CALL FOR CONTINUING FIGHT AGAINST PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS

The recent suicide bombing at a Catholic church in Indonesia serves as a reminder that the persecution of Christians remains a problem and the fight against it must be pursued, the co-ruling Christian Democrats said. Group leader István Simicskó said in a statement that the Christian Democrats rejected all forms of violence, adding that the free practice of religion was a basic human right. The Hungarian government prioritises helping persecuted Christians with the aim not only of improving the lives of the faithful but also of ensuring peaceful coexistence between faiths, he added. “We trust that the Hungary Helps scheme is an example to representatives of other countries and religions to understand that respect, help and brotherly love can be used to resolve conflicts instead of brute force,” Simicskó said.
