Hungary opened a consular office in Novi Sad (Újvidék), in northern Serbia, on Thursday. Attorney Arpad Zavarko will oversee the mission as honorary consul. Zavarko, who assumed his post on Oct. 9, will be tasked with working to advance Hungarian-Serbian economic ties. The consular office’s jurisdiction extends to the Backa region of northern Vojvodina and the Syrmia region. According to official sources, trade turnover between Hungary and Serbia exceeded 2.6 billion euros in 2019, a 2.9% increase over the previous year.
