Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó opened a consulate in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on Friday. At the opening event, Szijjártó said his official visit to Laos was to prepare Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s visit to the country, which is slated for November. Hungary decided to open towards the East ten years ago, Szijjártó said. “We realised the East’s weight is going to grow in coming years … Looking at the numbers, I have to say the Hungarian government was right,” he said.
During his visit, Szijjártó met his Laotian counterpart, Saleumxay Kommasith, and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.
