ECJ RULES IN FAVOUR OF HUNGARY IN INFRINGEMENT PROCEDURE ON UTILITY FEES

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that Hungary’s law on utility fees does not violate European Union regulations in prohibiting energy companies to transfer special taxes and transaction fees to private consumers, the innovation and technology ministry said. Meanwhile, the ruling said Hungary has to ensure legal remedy against its energy market regulations. The ministry welcomed the ruling “in favour of Hungary in its dispute against the European Commission”. Hungary is ready to amend legislation to ensure legal remedy in accordance with the ECJ ruling, the statement said.
