SEMJÉN CALLS FOR MORE SERVICES TO AVOID CROWDED CHURCHES

The Hungarian state respects the freedom of the churches and will not impose any restrictions concerning religious services, Deputy PM Zsolt Semjén said after the government announced a state of emergency with regard to the spread of coronavirus, but suggested that bigger churches should hold more services than usual to facilitate an even distribution of people in enclosed spaces. As part of its new measures, the government banned any indoor event involving more than 100 people. Semjén also suggested that religious services could be broadcast by the public media.
