Budapest’s 2020 budget is green and geared towards creating opportunities for its residents, a Socialist councillor said ahead of the Budapest Assembly meeting. The budget provides for services so far missing from the lives of the city’s residents while ensuring funding is completely covered for all items included, Csaba Horváth, the Socialist group leader in the assembly, told a press conference. He said Budapest only gets back 2% of the taxes paid by its residents, so developments lack funding. Meanwhile, he noted that the Socialists are in talks with their alliance partner Párbeszéd on future closer cooperation. Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony, Párbeszéd’s co-leader, has also said cooperation between the two parties both within the national assembly and the Budapest one should be closer, and both should work to promote a “pro-republic majority”.
