NEW MUNICIPAL INTEREST COORDINATION COUNCIL HOLDS INAUGURAL SESSION

A new municipal interest coordination council (Főét) held its founding session.
The three-party body comprises representatives of five trade union confederations, five employer associations and representatives of the municipal council. Addressing the meeting, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said Főét will serve as a forum for discussing labour-related issues. He said that whereas it could not make up for inadequate national interest coordination processes, it may “offer an alternative … at least the capital city according to different principles”. The Budapest assembly voted last December to set up the council. It is tasked with facilitating consultations to pre-empt conflicts and serve as a forum to resolve them.
