SOCIALISTS CALL ON GOVT TO SPEND EU RECOVERY FUNDING 'FAIRLY'

The Socialist Party called on the Hungarian government to spend the European Union’s recovery funding “fairly, without favouring the rich and in a manner that is free of politics”. Socialist deputy group leader Tamás Harangozó reacted to a press conference held by Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, who called on the EU to adopt “a package that is fair, that does not give more money to the richer member states than it does to the poorer ones, focuses on economic growth and rebooting the economy and is free of politics”. Harangozó said the Hungarian government should apply the same requirements when spending the nearly 3,000 billion forints (EUR 8.4bn) expected to flow into Hungary from the package aiding economic recovery after the coronavirus pandemic.
