FARMERS' ASSOC: 'IMPOSSIBLE' TO MEET EU'S GREEN DEAL REQUIREMENTS ON TIME

It will be “impossible” to implement the European Green Deal policy within a year without new technology in the agricultural sector, the head of farmers’ association Magosz told public Kossuth Rádió. While the new policy would apply strict regulations to EU farmers, “the bloc’s biggest investors from Third World countries” would be allowed to bring in farm products untrammelled, István Jakab said. “The Hungarian agricultural sector has no chance of competing under such conditions.” He said farmers want the rules to be applied to products imported from developing countries so as to ensure a level playing field on the market.
The Green Deal policy includes goals such as reducing the use of pesticides, antibiotics and fertilisers by 50% and ensuring a wide crop rotation.
