An online petition signed by 60,000 people aims to ‘rescue’ the Liget Project, a plan already under way to transform the capital’s City Park into a museum quarter, the daily Magyar Nemzet said. The petition objects to a Metropolitan Council proposal on tightening the park’s building regulations which would stop the bulk of the project in its tracks. László Szabó, a resident of Nagykanizsa, in western Hungary, organised the signature drive last October. Meanwhile, the city council has canvassed residents for their feedback at varosrendezes@budapest.hu.
