The opposition Socialist Party has launched a “Dictatorship Watch” page on its website asking people to report online “any instances of abuse by the government” they have seen during the coronavirus-related state of emergency, a party lawmaker said. The Socialists are asking individuals and civil groups to report all instances to help the party collect “every decision linked either to [ruling] Fidesz or to parliament that the cabinet will have to account for”, Zsolt Molnár, the leader of the party’s Budapest chapter, told an online press conference. He said that since the declaration of the state of emergency, the government has taken decisions citing “seriousness of the situation” which, he said, had not been justified. The cabinet has decided to allocate 15 billion forints (EUR 42.8mn) for government communication purposes while it has left health-care workers without almost any support, Molnár said.
