DEUTSCH: EP 'ABOUT TO DISCREDIT ITSELF' WITH DEBATE ON HUNGARIAN LAW

European Parliament is about to discredit itself by holding a debate next week on Hungary’s coronavirus law, Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch said, insisting that the debate would be about something that has already been factually refuted. Věra Jourová, the EC vice president for values and transparency, has said that the Commission had assessed the Hungarian legislation on the state of emergency and found nothing objectionable from the point of view of EU law, he noted. Her statement has made the EC’s position clear “once and for all”, Deutsch said. At the proposal of the Greens, the EP has nevertheless decided to hold another debate on “the dire state of constitutionality in Hungary”, he said.
