BUDAPEST MAYOR ALLOCATES HUF 3 BN FOR 'BUDAPEST ALLOWANCE'

The Mayor of Budapest has decided to allocate almost 3 billion forints (EUR 8.5m) for the purpose of paying a “Budapest allowance” to public employees of the city’s cultural, public education and social institutions. Gergely Karácsony said on the website budapest.hu that the allowance would offset imbalances created by stagnant wages over the past ten years. The allowance will be introduced at 24 institutions employing 4,400 public servants, and will amount to a 15% wage hike on average, with more experienced workers getting larger pay hikes. According to the law, during the period of a state of emergency, the mayor takes over the duties and powers of the city’s General Assembly.
