ORBÁN DISCUSSES GOVT, LUTHERAN CHURCH AGREEMENT WITH DIGNITARIES

 

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met dignitaries of the Hungarian Reformed Church to discuss the government’s agreement with the church designed to regulate government funding for the its activities, the prime minister’s press chief said. The agreement will regulate government funding for religious education in public schools, for the Lutheran University of Religious Studies, the establishment of a hospital, reconstruction of some 50 vicarages and other projects, Bertalan Havasi said. At the meeting with Bishop Péter Kondor and Sándor Font, the supervisor of the southern Hungarian diocese, Orbán praised the church’s role in education and social work, and said the church and the government were “good partners”. Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén and Zoltán Balog, the commissioner for social affairs, also attended the meeting.
