Industrial output in Hungary grew by an annual 2.4% in January, based on unadjusted data, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Adjusted for the number of working days, output increased by an annual 2.7%. Automotive manufacturing, the sector’s biggest component, bounced back from a decline in the previous month. Computer, electronics and optical equipment manufacturing, another big segment, also saw healthy growth, as did output of the food, drink and tobacco products segment. Month on month, output grew by 4.6%, adjusted for seasonal and working-day effects.
The resumption of production following longer-than-usual customary shutdowns at the end of last year may have aided the modest increase in industrial production in January, but growth may be hampered going forward due to market and supply disruptions on the back of the new coronavirus, analysts told MTI.
