PALKOVICS DISCUSSES ROAD SAFETY, SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT WITH FIA PRESIDENT

Innovation and Technology Minister László Palkovics discussed road safety measures and sustainable transport solutions with Jean Todt, president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), in Paris on Monday. Speaking to MTI after his talks with Todt, Palkovics said the FIA president had asked him to present Hungary’s measures aimed at improving road safety to the United Nations’ road safety council. Hungary joined the UN’s road safety initiative last July and undertook to draft a scheme that would completely eliminate fatal traffic accidents by 2050, Palkovics noted. Palkovics and Todt’s talks also touched on the introduction of autonomous vehicles.
The minister said Todt invited him to present Hungary’s measures aimed at improving road safety at next month’s FIA High Level Panel for Road Safety and the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Stockholm. They also agreed that the innovation and technology ministry will organise conferences on sustainable transport systems and road safety in Budapest in August, ahead of the FIA Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix.
