KÖVÉR: EUROPE CAN NO LONGER IGNORE V4 POSITION

The position of the Visegrad Group comprising the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia can no longer be ignored as their excellent cooperation focusses on seeking consensus rather than exacerbating disputes, Hungary’s Parliamentary Speaker László Kövér said during a meeting with his three counterparts. Meeting in Prague’s Wallenstein Palace, the four speakers discussed the experience gained since transition to democracy three decades ago and the challenges faced by the Visegrad countries. “Thirty years ago we cherished the common goals of replacing dictatorship with democracy, servitude with freedom, subordination with self-determination, and poverty with welfare,” he said. The Visegrad countries have drawn the conclusion from the past 30 years that joint actions and close cooperation may provide them new opportunities in Europe, Kövér said.
