The leftist Democratic Coalition (DK), referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Hungary, has called it “shameful” that “a war criminal is allowed to come to Budapest and go about freely”.
With Turkey’s incursion into Syria earlier this month and “the blood of innocent, children, women and the elderly on his hands”, Erdoğan has “irrevocably removed himself from the ranks of European politicians”, DK spokesman Balazs Barkóczi said at a news conference broadcast on Facebook. DK will not allow Orbán to “cooperate with semi-Asian dictators in leading Hungary out of the European Union,” he said.
Barkóczi held the press conference on Andrássy Avenue, along the route Erdoğan was to take from the airport to the prime minister’s office in Buda Castle. Behind him, activists held up pictures of whom they called “victims of Erdoğan’s politics”.
