JOBBIK POSTPONES NATIONAL CONGRESS

The opposition Jobbik party has decided to postpone its national congress electing new officials to spring 2020. The nationalist party said in a statement that its national board had rejected the prolongation of the current leadership’s mandate for another two and a half years, a proposal that would have kept Tamás Sneider, the party’s leader, and his team in place in the run-up to the 2022 general election. When Péter Jakab, the party’s group leader, withdrew his candidacy to lead the party, however, the national board asked the current leadership to stay on until next May. The party’s national conference was originally scheduled for this November.
