KARÁCSONY INTRODUCES OPPOSITION'S 11TH DISTRICT MAYORAL CANDIDATE

The local council elections on October 13 will be a day of change, Gergely Karácsony, the opposition’s joint candidate for Budapest mayor, said, introducing the opposition’s local mayoral candidate in Budapest’s 11th district. The majority of Budapest residents want change and parties that run jointly against ruling Fidesz’s candidates understand their responsibility, Karácsony said introducing Imre László of the Democratic Coalition (DK). “As a result, Budapest residents will be able to take their city back from Fidesz oligarchs,” he added.
Karácsony said Budapest people already knew what it felt like when their hospitals, schools and other institutions are taken away from them. “The closer something gets to [Prime Minister] Viktor Orbán, the least effectively it will work,” he added.
László said the six parties and several civil organisations supporting him have joined forces because they believe in the importance of serving locals and not because they want to seize power.
