Zoltán Balog, the commissioner for social affairs, presented Guido Wolf, the justice and European affairs minister of Baden-Württemberg, with the Order of Merit of Hungary, Medium Cross, in Stuttgart. Speaking to MTI by phone, Balog praised Wolf’s past efforts in nurturing and strengthening German-Hungarian relations. The commissioner noted that in 2016, Germany’s Green party had initiated cutting or overall scrapping funding for Budapest’s Andrássy Gyula University, the only German-language university outside a German-speaking territory. Wolf, he noted, took up the issue in order to prevent cuts to the university’s funding. Balog praised Wolf for having remained a strong supporter of the university ever since, both financially and intellectually.
