HUNGARIAN MPS TO VOTE ON REJECTING SARGENTINI REPORT IN OCT

A government proposal to reject the Sargentini report is scheduled to be submitted to parliament early in the second week of October, daily Magyar Idők said. The paper noted that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had welcomed in a letter the support of MEPs who expressed support for national sovereignty by backing Hungary in the European parliamentary vote on the report by Dutch Green MEP Judith Sargentini.

Parliament’s justice committee on Tuesday voted to approve a proposal to debate a resolution responding to the Sargentini report’s condemnation of Hungary. The proposed resolution also motions to reject the abolition of national border policing.

The paper noted that nongovernment committee member Dóra Dúró backed the proposal for a debate on the resolution. The independent who represents Mi Hazánk Mozgalom is the only opposition politician to reject the Sargentini report, it added.
