LMP proposes Parlt committee session over Ukraine Hungarians

Opposition LMP has proposed that parliament’s foreign affairs, national cohesion and European affairs committees should hold a joint
session to discuss recent measures by the Ukrainian authorities impacting the ethnic Hungarian community in Transcarpathia. LMP also proposes that parliament should adopt a political statement to promote the rights of Ukraine Hungarians and urge Ukraine to meet its “obligations arising from European values”. Last week, footage recorded by a hidden camera came to light in which Ukrainian nationals take the Hungarian
citizenship oath at the Hungarian consulate in Berehove (Beregszász). The footage incited a diplomatic dispute between the two countries. Earlier this week Ukrainian nationalists staged a protest demanding that the consular office should be closed down.
