BUDAPEST TRANSPORT COMPANY TO BUY BUSES FROM SWITZERLAND

Budapest public transport company BKV will soon purchase second-hand buses from Switzerland, business daily Világgazdaság said. The 12 Van Hool articulated buses, manufactured 14 years ago, will appear on the streets of Hungary’s capital city in the autumn. The average age of the company’s bus fleet is 13 years. BKV has also announced plans to purchase new single and articulated buses in the near future. According to the company, purchasing electric buses would be all the more justified as its 1,000-strong fleet consumes over 28 million litres of fuel a year. BKV said that currently 78% of its buses are climate controlled and 83% are accessible for people with reduced mobility.
